I became interested in Alaska and medicine at a very young age. When I was 6 years old, my piano teacher, who was visiting Alaska, sent me a postcard encouraging me to visit this beautiful state. Around the same time, I was busy setting up field medic operations with my pets, dolls and stuffed toys, triaging the worst “patients” and applying my vast knowledge of wound care. Occasionally my patients were wounded birds or other animals. Eventually I was bandaging up friends who were injured.

Fast forward 13 years, I moved to Alaska, marred a lifelong Alaskan, and began pursuing my education. Initially I thought I might be a Pediatrician, because I love kids. However, working with a few very sick kids changed my mind about that.

Thirteen years as an RN and 12 years as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, has been an extremely rewarding career. I’ve had a variety of experiences including high-risk obstetrics, forensics, adult primary care, employee health, radiology and women’s health.

While all of them have been fantastic experiences, I find women’s health to be the most rewarding. I love women! I learn so much from my patients. I feel it is my responsibility to share what I’ve learned and to continue learning with my patients.

I love the opportunity to teach women about health, prevention and wellness and also to be a support during times of illness. I want to provide young women with accurate information so that they feel empowered to take care of themselves. Denali OB-GYN is the perfect place for me to be able to do that.

Sandy is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing from the University of Alaska.

Sandra took the time to sit down face to face and get to know me. I knew she was especially busy that day but she did not rush through my appointment. Great experience for a first-time patient.Denali OB-GYN Patient
