OBSTETRICIAN-GYNECOLOGIST

ABOUT ME

I became a doctor at 21 years old and have been practicing obstetrics and gynecology for 28 years, so I have a wealth of experience in caring for women and their unique health issues. I like to take care of my own patients, so I do whatever needs to be done for them.

Continuity of care is so important. My patients stay with me over the long term, and I connect with them on a personal level. That is not possible in many other medical fields, which is why I chose to devote my life and career to women’s health. As OB-GYN providers, we get to see patients year after year and often take care of several women in the same family. My goal is always to offer individualized care to my patients and their families. It matters.

Delivering babies gives me joy. I see my patients throughout their entire pregnancy. Every prenatal visit they see me, and that builds trust between us and confidence that the doctor who will be there on the day of her delivery is the same doctor who knows her, knows her health history and special circumstances, and knows the health of her baby. It is a privilege to be part of someone’s life-changing moment, helping her bring a child into this world. People don’t usually forget who delivered their child, and they develop a deep connection with that physician.

Modern medical technology enables me to greatly reduce the impact on the patient through minimally invasive techniques. Over the past three decades, I have developed expertise in both routine care and major surgeries. When possible, I prefer to use a vaginal approach for minimally invasive surgery. I am also skilled at laparoscopic surgery, which allows for easier recovery than abdominal surgery. Correcting urinary incontinence is also something I enjoy doing, since it has such a profound effect on a woman’s quality of life.

“Women want to look and feel good inside and out. I enjoy helping them and improving their quality of life.”

WHY SHOULD A PATIENT CHOOSE DENALI OB-GYN?

Denali OB-GYN Clinic has a team of great providers, so we can take care of virtually any patient’s needs. We work closely together and consult with each other, so every doctor and nurse practitioner at Denali can rely on the specialization, education, and experience of the other providers. I don’t think there are many other clinics that have the same level of multi-specialized physicians all working together.

On a personal note, while I had one of the busiest practices in Portland for 10 years, my family moved here for a change of pace. Alaska is a good place to raise families, and we have two little girls. We love skiing, fishing, camping, traveling, and playing piano. The performing arts are important to me, and I dearly love opera.
